The urbex community is on the rise, worldwide, and nationally within Australia. Whilst it’s hard to calculate how big the community actually is, I wanted to start by shining light on some of Australia’s top urbex abandoned building photographers.
These lads and lassies have been undertaking the same work as I have over many, many years, and they deserve recognition. Following urban exploration as a passion and breaking barriers to photograph abandoned buildings is not an easy hobby to upkeep. As a group, we have collectively photographed some of the most dangerous and beautiful forgotten buildings in Australia and worldwide. Well done and keep up the great work.

Shane Thoms is an Australian photographer and photojournalist who studied at Monash University in Melbourne. He has explored and photographed the town of Prypiat, Chernobyl, many beautiful ruins of Japan which can be seen in his book: Haikyo: The Modern Ruins of Japan.
